The Broccolo Fiolaro from Creazzo, one of the excellence of the Veneto region, is a typical product of the Vicenza area to be researched and savored thanks, also, to its great versatility in the kitchen. It is recognized by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (PAT), that is, a Traditional Italian Agri-Food Product.
It is grown mainly among the gentle hills that arise near Creazzo, in the province of Vicenza, where it has found its ideal environment in a limestone and sandy soil.
The main feature of Broccoli Fiolaro is its sweet and delicate flavor that conquers already at the first taste, in fact the tastiest are consumed after the first frosts, in the winter months between January and February.
The harvest takes place in the months of January and February when the plant, naturally defending itself from frost, limits biological processes, thus increasing the concentration of sugars and salts inside, improving the organoleptic characteristics of broccoli.
The typical name "Fiolaro" derives from the structure of the plant, in fact inside it, along the stem, we find the shoots, called with the dialectal term of "Fioi" or sons, which, together with the leaves represent the best part of the broccoli. One of the events not to be missed is the famous Sagra del Broccolo Fiolaro in Creazzo, held in the city's Palatenda in the middle of January, during the event you can have tastings in the food stand, participate in lunches and dinners with typical dishes. the territory and attend musical shows and sporting events.
