Sandrigo

Sandrigo is a small town in the province of Vicenza that dates back to the beginning of the second century AD, as evidenced by some finds of funerary inscriptions unearthed during archaeological excavations in 1920. This pretty town is located along the road from the historic center of Vicenza leads to the wonderful city of Bassano del Grappa, with its famous Ponte degli Alpini.

A place of passage but also of great traditions, mixed with the centuries-old customs of a unique territory, which differs in its tenacity and resourcefulness in many sectors. One of the buildings not to be missed is Villa Sex Schiavi, a wonderful Venetian villa located in the historic center of Sandrigo, which dates back to 1570.

The building is made up of an arcade of six Doric columns, which preserves fake niches inside, with depictions of Hercules killing Caco, and Perseus with the head of Medusa killing an enemy. The central complex dates back to the seventeenth century and houses four rooms, frescoed by Giovanni Antonio Fasolo.

In the four rooms we find the four terrestrial elements depicted in a mythological key, the Earth is taken up like a mother from which the milk flows, accompanied by the divinities connected to the work of the fields, Bacchus, Ceres and Proserpina.

The water is represented by Neptune with the trident. Air is symbolized by Juno, flanked by a peacock. The Fire reproduced from the forge of the god Vulcan, with the hammer and the anvil, with his wife Venus and Cupid. An important and famous anniversary that takes place in September in this town is the Festa del Baccalà.

The event, which is held just outside the town, involves the preparation of this fish, coming directly from the twin city of Loften, in Norway, according to the ancient recipe of the famous Vicenza-style cod. During the event, the cod is the absolute protagonist, prepared and served in various ways, the bigoli with Torcio di Limena with cod, Posina gnocchi with cod, risotto with cod and Venetian creamed cod. Every evening we accompany the tastings with lots of live music, exhibitions, markets and cabaret.
