Portogruaro, located a few kilometers from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, is crossed by the river Lemene, which offers to the most curious tourists different interesting views. It is a way of passage for the famous Venetian seaside resorts, which every year from Bibione to Lido di Jesolo hosts thousands of tourists from all over the world. Land of great food and wine products and a wide range of particularly prestigious local artisan products.
Its peculiarities are the ancient buildings, the thirteenth-century walls and the numerous palaces in Italian and Renaissance gothic style, which witness the different historical moments that have marked this city.
Not to be missed are: the Molini di Sant'Andrea with its weeping willows along the Lemene river which offer shelter on the hottest summer days, the fourteenth-century Municipal Palace in Repubblica Square and the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea Apostolo, which houses the inside there are some paintings such as the Resurrection altarpiece, the work of the famous Jacopo Negretti, known as Palma il Giovane, the altarpiece depicting Saint Thomas by Cima da Conegliano, although the original was sold to the National Gallery in London for £ 1800.
Among the most characteristic events we highlight the Sant'Andrea Fair dedicated to the gastronomic products of the territory and the Lison DOCG and Refosco wine, or the International Chamber Music Festival, also called Portogruaro Musical Summer, and the Poetry and Literature Week, which takes place in the summer.
