The city of Pescantina is located on the slopes of the Valpolicella valleys, located along the banks of the Adige river, in the beautiful province of Verona. A territory that offers incomparable beauties, ranging from green hills cultivated with vines and olive trees, from ancient villages, to the high rocky peaks of its mountains.

Pescantina

Areas rich in history, demonstrated by the many finds from the Paleolithic era, which were found in the caves and caves of Valpolicella. A historical and cultural identity, however, was also given here in Pescantina, by the Roman conquest that despite the complexity of the territory, managed to leave their mark.

One of the works that favored these lands was the Via Claudia Augusta, built between 15 and 47 BC, which started from the Po Valley, crossed the Alps to Bavaria, thus increasing the passage of goods by land and the development of activities related to trade on the Piave river.

It has always had, as its main economic activity, the manufacture of boats or "burchi", as they were traditionally called by the locals. The burchio or also called bùrcio is a large merchant with a flat bottom, used to be able to easily navigate the shallows of the Venetian lagoon.

According to local traditions, this boat was made of wood, with a length that could vary between 20 and 35 meters, equipped with two masts, one in the bow and the other in the stern, governed by a rudder bar, positioned at the center of the stern. There are many types, from those with propulsion to those with oars or large poles, and they are also found specially equipped for the use of winches or ropes for towing.

At the center of this town we find the 15th century church of San Rocco, with its fragments of wall paintings and an important marble altar with the statue of the saint, just outside the town we find the splendid Cathedral of San Lorenzo, in style neoclassical-baroque, with its bell tower about 80 meters high, and a single nave characterized by paintings by Veronese artists.

The city of Pescantina is also famous for water sports, which are very popular here thanks to the proximity of many waterways and totally natural environments. For those who want to try a different and suggestive experience, canoeing and rafting can be practiced in these areas.
