In this chapter we discuss one of the cities that have marked the history of the unique and courageous province of Verona, Villafranca di Verona.
The first settlements in Villafranca di Verona date back to the first century AD and are proved by the findings of a tomb with an important funerary equipment and the marble of a building dedicated to Tiberius, the second Roman emperor, which stood near the Via Postumia, which at the time crossed the territory.
In 1185, following the vote of the Council of Rectors of Verona, Villafranca arose, in defense of the constant threats of the Mantuan people, traditional opponents of the Verona inhabitants.
The Scaligero Castle, symbol of Villafranca di Verona, has for centuries guarded the population and livestock in case of clashes. Today it is a symbol of the ancient Scaliger wealth in this land and is the setting for the various summer shows and concerts.
