In this chapter we are dealing with a very unusual building, not very frequented but very interesting, the San Francesco Vigna Church.
The San Francesco Vigna Church, one of the most impressive and important churches in Venezia, is located in the homonymous field in the Castello district. When the first Franciscan monastery was built in the 13th century, this area was full of vineyards.
The present church, begun by Jacopo Sansovino in 1534 for the Franciscans, is one of the most beautiful Renaissance churches in Venezia and was completed in 1554. Ten years later, for the construction of the grandiose façade, the architect Andrea Palladio was called, which build it with a classic style. Among the several masterpieces kept in the church are the paintings by Giorgione, Veronese, Vivarini and Giovanni Bellini.
